National Palace Museum Southern Branch

The National Palace Museum Southern Branch, commonly known as the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum or the Chiayi Palace Museum, is one of the two main branches of the National Palace Museum in Taiwan. It focuses on the collection, research, education, and exhibition of Asian art and cultural artifacts.
Covering approximately 70 hectares, the museum complex includes the main exhibition building, themed gardens, and an artificial lake. The architecture is inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting techniques—“dense ink,” “flying white,” and “wash”—forming solid exhibition spaces and storage areas, as well as open, transparent public spaces. The design symbolizes the cultural interaction of Chinese, Indian, and Persian civilizations, representing the diversity and richness of Asian culture.
